A flamed granite reception desk, exposed concrete walls and a uniformly grey palette greet guests. Alleviated partly by a huge iron grille and spots on the floor highlighting the textures of the stone, the overall effect is nevertheless austere. This is a serious venue for serious partying.
On the first floor, XLounge features custom-designed low-level furniture, sisal carpets and cool curtains, while Charcoal, a Japanese restaurant, sports a decorative installation filled with charcoal hanging atop the windows that run the perimeter of the restaurant. Simple low merbau tables with a central grill for teppanyaki are fuss free. A tatami-mat section with seating on the floor, and a couple of private rooms complete this simple eatery.
Above, in the apex of the building, is Vertigo. Here a central dance floor is surrounded by low-level seating as well as some custom-crafted roughly rendered merbau high tables with steel supports. Inset in these are small glowing blue LED lights. Further illumination is provided by two walls of steel rope-like lights that dangle beneath twisted metal stalks; taking their inspiration from the futuristic film The Matrix, their organic forms balance the rectangular rigidity of the club.
